hen Pearl Carter Scott was a little girl, Wiley Post would land his plane in the field next to her house. Wiley came to visit his brother who lived across the street. Soon after, Post befriended Pearl’s family, and her father became the first passenger to fly in the Winnie Mae. Pearl was the second. Before his famous trip around the world, Wiley taught Pearl to fly.

By the age of thirteen, Pearl’s father bought her an airplane, converted a pasture into an airport, and Pearl became one of the first American aviatrix in history. After her family lost everything in the Great Depression, she turned her life toward the service of the Chickasaw people.
